Waterloo

By signing up to the Walloon Region’s ‘Energ-ethic municipality’ charter, Waterloo has pledged to actively promote Rational Energy Use (REU).

Its actions:
The charter’s programme of actions has 3 thrusts:

• to improve the understanding of energy consumption in municipal buildings (tracking and reducing consumption, promoting renewable energies, raising awareness among municipal staff);
• to ensure that citizens are kept regularly informed and aware of REU;
• to monitor compliance with town planning standards in terms of energy, and prepare for the transposition of the European directive on the Energy Performance of Buildings (EPB).

Regional subsidies have enabled an energy consultant to be employed to implement this programme.
At municipal level, solar energy remains the favoured choice, with a grant being paid for the installation of thermal solar panels.
